According to the UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) Institute of Statistics, in Benin, 55% of students do not achieve the Minimum Proficiency Level (MLP) in reading at the end of primary school. Further, primary school completion rate for girls is 70% and 77% for boys. Secondary completion rate is even lower with only 35% of girls and 39% of boys.
